I didn't come to making through a classroom or a formal program — I came to it through curiosity, a willingness to get my hands messy, and a genuine love of seeing what happens when you just start. Everything I know, I learned by experimenting and from watching the artists that I admire and inspire me. I embrace everything from the materials, to the process, and to whatever strange and wonderful thing wants to come out next.
These days, ceramics has most of my heart. There's something deeply satisfying about clay — it's forgiving and demanding all at once, and it keeps you humble in the best possible way. I also work in watercolour and acrylic paints, because variety keeps things interesting and every medium teaches you something the others can't.
The things I make tend to be colourful, a little playful, and always a bit of a surprise — even to me.
My Guardian Monsters are a personal favourite — and they might just be the heart of what Colourful Tidbits is all about. Each one is made spontaneously, with no plan at the start. They reveal their personality as they take shape, and by the time they're done, they've told me who they are: their name, their backstory, what they're here to protect you from. No two are ever the same, and that's entirely the point.
I draw a lot of inspiration from nature — its textures, its colours, its quiet stubbornness — and from People. Human quirks, foibles, and the endearing little ways we muddle through. There's so much warmth in the imperfect and I embrace the ordinary, and I try to bring a little of that into everything I make.
I'm based in beautiful Pitt Meadows, BC, Canada and I'm currently starting to plan for my first market this Canada Day — which feels both thrilling and appropriately terrifying.
Thanks for being here. I hope something on these pages makes you smile.
